What is Ecotherapy?

Ecotherapy recognises that spending time in nature supports both physical and mental wellbeing. Sunlight helps regulate stress hormones and circadian rhythms, natural sounds and scents calm the nervous system, and movement supports mood and energy. Research consistently shows that time in nature can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while improving attention, concentration, and overall wellbeing.

Ecotherapy combines the benefits of nature with opportunities for reflection, growth, and meaningful connection. Through guided activities and facilitated experiences, participants are encouraged to explore their thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and behaviours with greater awareness and clarity. This process can help people gain perspective, develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others, and move beyond patterns that may no longer serve them well.

Nature supports this process by reducing stress and mental noise, creating conditions that allow deeper reflection and insight. Many people find that stepping away from the distractions of everyday life helps them reconnect with what matters most and view challenges from a different perspective.

At Still Waters, the benefits of nature and reflection are combined with social work principles and trauma-informed practice. Programs are designed to provide safe, structured, and supportive experiences that respect each person's unique circumstances and lived experience. Facilitation is grounded in evidence-based understandings of stress, trauma, resilience, and recovery.

Still Waters offers:

🌿 Structured, trauma-informed programs that support wellbeing, growth, and recovery.

🌿 Restorative nature activities that help people reconnect with themselves, others, and the natural world.

Through these experiences, participants are invited to slow down, feel safe, gain perspective, and discover the restorative potential of nature in ways that are both meaningful and life-enhancing.
